Collectively, non-communicable diseases constitute the greatest threat to human health and welfare globally. THSTI's programme on non-communicable diseases has prioritized immunobiology underlying autoimmune disorders, early prediction of diabetes and identifying stage-specific molecular signatures for NAFLD/NASH.

  • Delineation of the role of immune T cells in the development and progression of various autoimmune diseases. The focus is also to understand the interrelationship between genetic and environmental factors which is crucial to gaining insights into the etiopathogenesis of these diseases.
  • Development of disease prediction tools based on metabolomic signatures using Machine Learning algorithms
  • In vitro and in vivo models to evaluate new chemical entities and plant based extracts
  • Identification of stage-specific molecular signature for diagnosis/ prognosis of NAFLD/NASH-related phenotypes
