IISF 2021
Every year, India International Science Festival (IISF) is held so as to motivate and enlighten youngsters about the country’s scientific achievements. This year the seventh IISF was held in Panaji, Goa with the theme 'Celebrating Creativity in Science, Technology and Innovation for Prosperous India' as a part of celebrating Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75th year of Swatantrata. A team of faculty members, scientists and students from Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) participated in IISF by showcasing its scientific achievements in developing innovative low-cost solutions for addressing various challenges faced by the healthcare sector in India. The visitors were inquisitive and were interested to know THSTI’s contribution in establishing clinical cohorts of patients with COVID-19 and various animal models of COVID-19, and how this helped India in testing different vaccine and drug candidates against COVID-19. Visitors appreciated the work done by Bioassay lab in carrying out whopping number of RT-PCR tests. Apart from COVID-19 work, THSTI also showcased the translational work in the fields of Maternal and Child Health, Infection and Immunology, Multiclinical Translational Research and Non-Communicable Diseases. The research resource platforms viz., Bioassay laboratory, Biorepository, Data Management and Small animal facility of THSTI were also showcased. The work done in the field of clinical trials was showcased as a poster by the Clinical Development Services Agency (CDSA) of THSTI. During the expo, THSTI’s stall was one of the most visited stalls by college and school children. The youngsters were amazed and motivated by the research work being done at THSTI. Team THSTI’s interactions with all the visitors specially with the youngsters was enriching. The youngsters were told about myriad opportunities in pursuit of scientific career. There were interesting fun games at THSTI’s stall which were enjoyed a lot by the students.
