Our lab focuses on unraveling the pathophysiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes using both human and animal models. We employ liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) techniques for comprehensive characterization and quantification of metabolites (metabolome), lipids (lipidome), and various exogenous compounds (exposome) during the progression of these diseases. In collaboration with clinicians from institutes across India, we leverage omics approaches to thoroughly investigate the pathology of NAFLD and type 2 diabetes. Moreover, our research emphasizes the development of LC-MS methods, improving data processing, curation of metabolite databases, and the application of advanced statistical methods for omics data analysis. We have established an in-house metabolite database containing over 10,000 compounds, which significantly enhances the accuracy of metabolite identification. Additionally, our work involves elucidating the structure of metabolic pathways and fluxes in diseased conditions using stable isotopes in cell culture and animal models.
