Conference on Human Microbiome in Health and Disease
The Human Microbiome in Health and Disease conference was held on 15th February 2023 at M K Bhan Auditorium, Translational Health Science & Technology Institute (THSTI). The conference brought together researchers, policymakers and experts from various fields to discuss the latest advancements and research findings in the human microbiome and its role in health and diseases. Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India was the chief guest for the conference. Dr Gokhale launched the BiomLifeTM, a universal buffer for the transport and long-term storage of various biological specimens, developed by THSTI. The conference had keynote sessions, plenary lectures, and poster presentations, covering a range of topics related to the human microbiome.
The conference began with the lighting of the lamp ceremony followed by the welcome remarks given by Prof. Shinjini Bhatnagar, THSTI. The keynote session was delivered by Dr. Pramod K. Garg, Executive Director, THSTI, who discussed the importance of the human microbiome and its role in maintaining human health. He highlighted the emerging role of the microbiome in regulating metabolic functions, the impact of diet and lifestyle on the microbiome composition and its association with various chronic diseases.
The speakers from the various sessions shared their research findings and added to the existing understanding of the human microbiome. In the poster session, young students and researchers presented their latest findings related to the human microbiome. Ten best poster awards (THSTI-Yakult Best Poster Award) were given at the conference.
The presentations and discussions at the conference provided insights into the latest research trends and potential therapeutic approaches for microbiome-related diseases. Overall, the conference was a success and provided a valuable opportunity for the scientific community to come together and advance the field of human microbiome research.
