Indian Patent granted to THSTI
On 29th September 2022, an invention entitled ‘METHOD OF IMPROVING STABILITY OF RECOMBINANT PROTEIN PRODUCT IN CHO BATCH CULTURE AND USES THEREOF’ was granted for the term of 20 years from the 28th day of July 2015 in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Patents Act,1970. This invention is based on work done by Dr. Niraj Kumar (Assistant Professor, THSTI) in association with Dr. Susmita Chaudhuri (Assistant Professor, THSTI) and Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari (Ex-Scientist, THSTI).
The present invention provides an improved method for increasing the yield of recombinant protein in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO)-based batch culture by selectively removing matrix metalloproteinase enriched microvesicles fraction from the spent-culture media. This minimizes the proteolytic activity of matrix metalloproteinase in the production culture and hence reduced the product degradation and improves the overall yield. THSTI is keen to have suitable industrial collaboration for the further development of this invention.
