On 3^rd May 2023, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) conducted a day-long conference on ‘BioDesign Innovation for Development of HealthTech Solutions’. The conference focussed on BioDesign and Entrepreneurship that saw a confluence of policymakers, researchers, industrialists and budding entrepreneurs coming together. Dr. Alka Sharma, Senior Advisor, DBT and MD, BIRAC, delivered the keynote address. During her address, Dr Sharma highlighted the successful technology innovations that DBT and BIRAC have supported. She also spoke about the way forward for BIRAC to contribute to Bioeconomy. Dr. Kalaivani Ganesan, Scientist-F, DBT, gave a brief insight into the history and impact of BioDesign Innovation in India. Addressing the conference, Prof. Pramod Garg, ED, THSTI, urged the youngsters to focus and persevere on finding affordable solutions for unmet health needs. He also talked about the recently launched multi-institutional SiB fellowship program that is anchored at THSTI. One of the conference's highlights was the competition 'Start-up Pitch-Entrepreneurial Journey and Success' for budding entrepreneurs, and awards were given to the top three pitchers.
