Present Research Interests

The focus of my ongoing research is to study physiological mechanisms in the foetus and neonate that are of relevance to understanding the pathophysiology of adverse outcomes in intra-uterine and neonatal period. I work in close collaboration with Uma Chandra Mouli Natchu, Shailaja Sopori, Nitya Wadhwa, Pallavi Kshetrapal and Shinjini Bhatnagar (Paediaric Biology Centre, THSTI) and under the mentorship of Satyajit Rath, Vineeta Bal and Anna George (NII). Using cellular and flow-cytometry based Immunologic approaches in mouse models and humans, I work on :

  • Understanding the relative contributions of genetic and environmental factors shaping the normal immune phenotype and function in humans
  • Functional and developmental maturation of the neonatal immune system with the aim to understand immune mechanisms contributing to neonatal infectious morbidity.
  • Immune mechanisms contributing to fetal tolerance during pregnancy
