Target Validation

This team works in close concert with the Systems and Mathematical Biology group at DDRC to identify and validate drug targets from high throughput proteomic and metabolomic datasets. These datasets are integrated into proteo-metabolic networks, and analyzed in the context of disease-specific perturbations. Analysis is approached though a combination of innovative methodologies, all developed in-house, with the aim of identifying putative drug targets. Targets thus identified are subjected to validation using molecular techniques like CRISPR-Cas9 based genome editing, siRNA known-downs, and protein over-expression employing lentivirus based or gateway cloning strategies. CRISPR/Cas9 is emerging as a major genome-manipulation tool for research and holds great promise for discovering/validating therapeutic targets in disease. The primary focus is to develop in-house expertise on designing CRISPR-Cas9 based genome editing tools, and putting them to use across its diverse applications including drug target discovery and validations.
